April Match Results

Wind, wind and more wind – the key word of the day “wind”. Eight shooters braved the 20 MPH wind (gusts to 30) for the CMP sanctioned, John C. Garand Match held Saturday, April 14.  These eight staunch men represented 16 entries in the three classes offered in the match. The classes were:  M1 Garand, US Bolt Action Rifles and Foreign Bolt Action Rifles. The foreign rifles shot in the match were; Japan’s Type 99 Arisaka, England’s No.1 MK3 Enfield and a German K98.  The US was represented by various 1903’s, a 1903A3 and a 1917 Eddystone. The venerable old M1 Garands used were various vintages and makers, but all were still going strong! The course of fire in a John C. Garand match consists of 10 rounds slow fire (15 minutes, includes 5 un- scored sighter shots) prone, 10 rounds rapid fire prone (70 seconds from standing to prone) and 10 rounds slow fire (10 minutes) standing.

The winners were:

M1 Garand

1st Frank Bliss – 271 x 300 – 4x shooting an H&R Garand earning a CMP Bronze award pin

2nd  Tom Tenseth – 250 x 300 – 2x shooting his Springfield Garand

3rd   Travis Bensen – 237 x 300 – 2x also shooting an H&R Garand

2nd Dave Rueter – 213 x 300 – 0x shooting his Type 99 Arisaka

3rd Tom Tenseth – 156 x 300 – 0x using a Enfield No. 1 MK 3

The CMP sanctioned matches do not count toward the PCSC Service Rifle Championship, so there were no changes in those standings.

The next service rifle match is:

Rain, rain, rain, mud, mud, mud, that was the order of the day, uniform of the day - rain gear!  I've got to say these service rifle shooters are tough old birds, no one even thought about quiting on a tough day.  Oh yeah, it was cold to!  We had some new blood join us for this match; Bob Riggins and John Lacy joined in, hope you guys had a good time.  Phil Zehring came by and watched the shooting and hopes he can join in on the fun soon as well, we hope so to Phil. Below are results of this very fun match, the Urban Rifle, a match requiring right and left hand shooting from different barriers under the stress of time. Match Results September 11, 2011 - Urban 3 Gun Format

All,

The last shot has been fired, the bullet holes counted, the scores have been tallied and the results are in.  The September match was the last match of the 2011 Service Rifle season and what a great day to end on.  The weather was perfect, well could have been a bit cooler, no wind and a great crowd of shooters.  We had two guest join in; Bill Haggerty and Matt Loghry (both members from Fort Worth Trap and Skeet Club) shot with us and welcome to them both.  Fred Grimes was back with us for this match after a long absence, Fred we hope this means we'll see more of you in the 2012 season.  The September match was our Urban Rifle Three Gun format, a shoot and scoot match using a service rifle, pistol and finishing with a shotgun.  The match required shooters to shoot a rifle from awkward positions behind cover, as well as, shooting the pistol and rifle right and left handed, all under pressure of time! Oh, did I mention they had to toss a grenade for score as well?  The results are listed below as well as the winners of the 2011 Service Rifle Championships.  The Champions were determined by combining all six Service Rifle match scores over the season. I did not show a "possible" score for the Three Gun match below as we added points or subtracted points based on shooting times making a possible score difficult to determine. There are still two CMP sanctioned matches left in 2011 but the CMP matches are not part of the championship series. Attached to this email are the 2011 match scores, championship scores and the match schedule with the CMP match dates included.
Lastly, a big "Thank You" to Mrs. Cliff Montgomery for acting as our back-up stop watch timer, she was a great help!
